MERCEDES-BENZ FACTORY AWARDED AS “BIRD-FRIENDLY WORKPLACE”

With measures taken to protect the habitats of birds, the Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét won in 2020 the Bird-Friendly Workplace title awarded by the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Association.

The employees of the Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét are constantly greening the immediate surroundings of the factory: in the past 7 years, almost 2,300 trees and more than 93,000 bushes have been planted on the factory site. Several animal species and many different plants live in harmony in the immediate vicinity of industrial production.

To support the environmentally conscious approach, an environmental program called “Keep it green” was launched in May 2020, of which the first stop was an unusual exhibition on the site organized on the occasion of the Birds and Trees Day. Next to an all-green Mercedes-Benz CLA information boards showed how diverse the flora and fauna in the immediate vicinity of the car factory is and which strategic steps the company is taking to protect the environment.

The company is constantly striving to use the best available technologies to it, thus minimizing the impact on the environment. Since the start of production in 2012, the car plant has made significant improvements in terms of energy efficiency, water use, CO2 emissions and the recycling rate of waste generated during production. The Mercedes-Benz plant aims to make production completely carbon-neutral by 2022.
