Production has started in the new 23,000 square metre press plant of the Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét. The press plant will increase the number of "Made in Kecskemét" parts worldwide, as it will also supply the Mercedes-Benz global production network with a wide variety of pressed steel and aluminium parts.
The investment, announced in 2020, was completed within two years, as originally planned. The new plant will contribute to the flexibility of the Kecskemét plant's production system, thereby ensuring stable employment and long-term planability for the company's current and future employees.
In the second press plant of the factory, a state-of-the-art Servo press line has been installed to ensure the interchangeability of the press tools between sites, thus making the production more flexible: from ordering to production and logistic processes to delivery to the body shop, all processes are electronically recorded and transmitted.
In addition to the Servo press line for the production of body panels and the Servo test press for testing new or modified press tools, the new press plant at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét will also house a laser sheet cutting line, which will make the production of large cutting tools that have been used up to now redundant, thus contributing to more efficient production and more flexible manufacturing.
